In the early hours of Sunday, November 30, 2025, suspected bandits stormed Chacho village in Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State, violently disrupting preparations for a wedding and abducting a young bride-to-be, her bridesmaid, and several other residents.
What happened
The attackers struck around 1:30 a.m., invading the community and kidnapping the bride-to-be, her close friend (the bridesmaid), and eight other residents.
All victims are reported to be women except for one man. One additional person was injured during the raid and is currently receiving medical treatment.
The bride was making final preparations for her wedding scheduled for that same day when the assailants attacked, turning what should have been a joyful occasion into a moment of fear and anguish.
Community reaction & security response
Residents described the incident as heartbreaking, saying women, children, and even the elderly fled into nearby bushes as the gunmen fired sporadically before escaping with their captives.
Local security personnel were alerted during the attack but reportedly arrived nearly an hour after the gunmen had fled, leaving villagers frustrated and deeply concerned about their safety.
As of now, the abductors have not made any contact or ransom demand, leaving families anxious and fearful as uncertainty hangs over the village.
This kidnapping adds to the growing wave of bandit attacks and mass abductions across northwestern Nigeria. Rural communities have been the most vulnerable, with repeated attacks disrupting livelihoods, celebrations, and daily life.
For residents of Chacho and surrounding areas, the night that was meant to be filled with celebration has instead become a sobering reminder of the region’s ongoing security challenges and the urgent need for decisive action.
